Sarah Sansbury Markham of Hendersonville, North Carolina passed away peacfully on Thursday May 12, 2022. She was born in Washington, DC on November 30 1943 to Donald N. and Eileen E. Sansbury of Calvert County, Maryland. She graduated with honors from Calvert County High School in 1962 where she played clarinet in the school band, and went on to graduate from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, in 1966 with a BA degree. Sarah enjoyed an accomplished career in retailing, managing stores for national companies, including Strawbridge and Clothier and Raleigh’s. She also earned a Real Estate Broker’s License and practiced in North Carolina. Sarah’s work and retirement led her to live in several states, including Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Florida and North Carolina. Her Substantial service to community included volunteer work at Pardee Hospital near her North Carolina home; for several years she was President of Pardee Volunteer Services. Sarah also served as Secretary and First Vice President of the local Kiwanis, and was a member and volunteer of Mud Creek Baptist Church. She was Predeceased by husband Roland H. (Mark) Markham, who died in 2009, and she is survived by her sister (Martha Sansbury Manning), two nieces and two grand nephews. the family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Brenda O’Neal of Hendersonville for her attention and care to Sarah in her latter years.
