Mabel E. Banks Brooks, 96, of Hendersonville, NC passed away Saturday, February 6, 2021 after a brief illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lattie “Curly” Banks and Cora Lee Moss Banks; her husbands, Jack D. Chastain (1980) and Joseph Brooks (1991); a son, Douglas Scarborough; 2 daughters, Patricia Hunnicutt and Karen Fish; sisters, Hazel McCracken, Helen Brackett, Dorothy Brooks and Edith Banks; brothers, James Banks, Elmer Banks and Holbert Banks and a stepmother, Vesti Banks.
She had lived in Henderson County since 1964 until her death.
She had worked at Roses Department Store Restaurant for 15 years, Skyland Hotel Restaurant for 8 years and Village Inn Restaurant for 3 years.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Mabel always loved shopping “for bargains”, hiking, walking, reading, going to movies, loved vacations to Florida and family reunions. She was an avid Bearcat Fan and attended many school events.
She is survived by her sons, Jack W. Chastain of Hendersonville and David Allen Chastain and his wife Sandra of Columbia, SC; daughters; Dena Koelber of Hendersonville, NC, Sandra Vance of Arden, NC, Betty Walden and her husband William Walden Jr. of Hendersonville, NC; a son-in-law, Gary Hunnicutt of Hendersonville, NC; 19 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Thursday February 11th at Jackson Funeral Service with a funeral service following in the chapel with Rev. Roy Perry officiating. A graveside committal service will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park.
