Carole Ann Huyck Wolf was born July 2nd, 1944, in Addison, MI to Junior Howard Huyck and Ellen Prosser Huyck. Her first years proved to be traumatic; both her parents died at a young age, and Carole, her two brothers, and one sister lived with their grandmother briefly until she too passed away. The siblings were separated and the girls and boys were sent to different foster families.
Carole was always looking forward to the future, and knew early on that she loved babies and wanted a family of her own. Deciding to become an RN, she enjoyed a lengthy career as an OB/GYN nurse.
She married David Lee Wolf on June 1st, 1969 in Adrian, MI; they were living in Big Rapids, MI when their first daughter, Denise Renee, was born. Moving to Hinsdale, IL, Carole and David were both working at Hinsdale Sanitarium and Hospital when they welcomed a son, Eric Scot, and another daughter, Kristin LeeAnn.
In 1986, the family moved south, where the couple worked in the newly built Park Ridge Hospital (now Advent Health). Carole loved being surrounded by the beautiful and colorful mountains of western North Carolina. Her love of caring for mothers and babies in the hospital was surpassed only by her love of being a mother herself.
Besides spending time with her family, Carole enjoyed vacationing (especially at the beach), attending church (particularly Sabbath School), reading, listening to music, and above all, spending time with God. Her highest priority was her relationship with Jesus Christ, which was woven through every aspect of her life; she consistently sought to teach her children and grandchildren the importance of loving God and following His will.
Although she always loved her work, Carole was happy to retire in 2005. She kept very busy during retirement by discovering and nurturing various creative talents. She scrapbooked extensively, creating one-of-a-kind keepsakes of all her family and friends. A newly realized talent for acrylic painting led to walls and shelves being covered in her original paintings and colorful figurines.
Carole took great pride in her flower gardens. Her first love was roses, but she enjoyed finding and growing as many varieties and colors as she could. Her other hobbies included playing games with family, doing puzzles, coloring, and watching game and cooking shows. She also had an uncanny ability to locate bargains, and thoroughly enjoyed getting amazing items at rock-bottom prices while Goodwill and thrift-store shopping with Eric.
Her three wonderful grandchildren, Jasmine and Miguel Zavala and Nash Turner, all adore her as the best grammy they could ever wish for.
Carole passed away peacefully Monday, November 22, 2021, at the age of 77. She was surrounded by her family, who quietly sang her favorite songs and spoke words of love and comfort as she breathed her last.
Carole is survived by her husband David Wolf; her children, Denise Turner, from Tampa, FL , Eric Wolf, from Hendersonville, NC, and Kristin Zavala, from Collegedale, TN; her sister Lori Principe of Fredericksburg, VA; and her grandchildren Nash, Jasmine, and Miguel. She was preceded in death by her older brothers, Neil Huyck and Greg Huyck.
Carole loved her family dearly and remained close to them until her death. Her happiness, smiles, teasing, love, honesty, generosity, compassion, and selflessness will be greatly missed.
Carole lived her life according to the Bible and especially looked forward to and was comforted by the following message in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18:
But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.
