Edward J. Jones, Jr., 90 of Hendersonville, passed away at his home early Friday April 5, 2024 after an extended illness.
A native of Henderson County, he was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Virgie Jones. He was the oldest of five children.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Thomas; a sister, Roberta Harms; two brothers Carroll Jones, and brother Cecil Jones.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley Jones; three children, Wayne Jones, Randy Jones, and Candy Jones Andreotta; five Grandchildren, Andrew Andreotta, Alyssa Andreotta Norman, Ariel Jones, Aaron Andreotta, and Peyton Jones; one brother, Rev. Rowland Jones of Tennessee; a sister, Shelia Jones Murphy of South Carolina; eight Great-Grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Jones was a military veteran serving in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1951 to 1954. His early working years were spent at General Electric, after which he operated his own doughnut bakery on Main Street. He spent most of his working life as a building and plumbing contractor in and around Hendersonville. He faithfully attended Hendersonville First Church of the Nazarene since its founding in 1947, where he served in many church positions over the years. He had a never-ending passion for auto racing, even building and racing his own racecar in the 1960’s. He loved his family, being a Papaw, Nazarene Campmeeting, making home movies, eating at steakhouses and morning coffee with his circle of friends in the community.
A funeral service will be at 2:00 pm, Monday April 8, 2024 in The Chapel in The Pines of Jackson Funeral Service in Hendersonville. Burial will follow the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
