Erskine L. Levi, Sr., 81, of Hendersonville, NC, died of a Heart Attack at his home on Friday, April 5, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Webster Lincoln “Link” Levi and Cyrene Levi, and by his brother David.
He is survived by his sister Beverly and brother Ken, and, his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren: his daughter Denise and her children, Gregory and Desiree; and his three sons – Erskine Jr., and wife Heather and their sons, Joseph and Matthew; Lee, his sons Jeremy and Geovanni; Robert, and wife Gloria and their children, Ashley and Robert Jr. His Great Grandchildren are Sophie, Elizabeth, and Peyton, and, he had many nieces and nephews as well.
Erskine served this nation in the U.S. Navy for four years as a Machinery Repairman on a destroyer escort during the early Vietnam War. He rose to the enlisted rank of Petty Officer.
After his service, Erskine lived in Michigan, raising his family, where he worked as a welder and metal fitter. Upon retirement, he moved back to Hendersonville.
He was a lifelong musician – playing guitar, bass, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, and harmonica, most recently with other local musicians who gathered to play as a group at various venues. His other interests included working on cars, and, history and genealogy (family history).
Erskine enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. Always up for a good bar-b-que, too! His children loved and admired him, not just as a great father, but as a good friend. Through all the ups-and-downs of life, he always did what he had to do to take care of his family and was always willing to help friend or stranger.
And, he was always ready to tease and joke with you!
We will miss our Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and friend. We will love you always!
A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 25, 2024 at two o’clock in the afternoon at Ebenezer Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church.
Condolences may be sent to the Levi family at www.jacksonfuneralservice.com or C/O Jackson Funeral Service 1101 Greenville Highway, Hendersonville, NC 28792. Please include the name of the deceased on the condolence.
