Sara McCall Bailes, born May 3rd, 1926 passed away on May 7th, 2024 at her home surrounded by family. Preceded in death by an infant daughter, her beloved husband Jim and son Jimmy, parents Luke and Johnnie McCall, and brother Melvin McCall of Greer, SC.
Finding purpose and pleasure in secretarial and administrative work, Sara spent many years working in the summer camp industry in Henderson County. She then started her own secretarial business with a friend helping many churches, attorneys, and other local businesses with administrative needs. Having a real knack for the summer camp industry she went back and worked in Tuxedo until retirement.
Being the social butterfly that she was Sara was very active in the First United Methodist Church of Hendersonville, the German Club, the American Legion, and her beloved Elks Lodge. Every Friday night Sara and Jim had a standing date to go “upthaclub” and anyone who had anything to celebrate could come along with them and enjoy a bourbon and sprite! Sara was always up for an adventure and enjoyed traveling with friends and close relatives. Her adventures took her to Germany, Australia, Hawaii, Aruba, and countless trips to Gatlinburg and the beach!
Sara was the true matriarch of her family and was very fortunate to be a huge part of her children and grandchildren’s lives. She enjoyed taking “the kids” to Clemson so they could better understand her obsession for Clemson Football, teaching them to cook, and typing skills to ensure they could type at least eighty words per minute! Sara also wanted to teach them the value of quality time with family and her home was the central hub for all family gatherings.
Sara is survived by her daughter Ann (Robert); daughter-in-law Melissa; grandchildren James Parkerson Bailes IV (Olivia), Charlotte Garcia (Daniel), and Sam Bailes (Brandy); great grandchildren Annabella and Wrenley Garcia; beloved Caregiver Jeana Heatherly (Eric); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Service will be held at First United Methodist Church in the Chapel on Saturday, June 1st at 10am. Internment will be at the Whitmire Cemetery in South Carolina on Sunday, June 2nd at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Four Seasons Hospice.
