Verlyn Gayle Logan Purvis of Hendersonville, NC was born September 6, 1937, in Chatham, Ontario, Canada and passed away from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Allan Grant Purvis, her parents, James (Bernedas) Curry Logan, brothers, Manning and Daryl (Beth) Logan and sister, Donelda (John) Gardner of Canada.
She attended Chatham Collegiate Institute Ursuline College, London Teachers College and Florida Atlantic University earning a bachelor’s degree. She taught at Victor Lauriston Elementary School in Chatham, Ontario, and Miramar Elementary School in Miramar, Florida.
In her early years of marriage, she lived in France on the Leon Air Force Base. She worked for 28 years as a paralegal for several local attorneys where she was known for her intelligence, neatness, organization, sense of humor, and attention to detail.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Leslie (Luke) Vinesett, Linda (dec. Steve) Brooks, grandchildren, Justin (Liane Deming) Brooks, Logan (Erin) Vinesett, Christian Brooks, Lauren (Nick) Pagan, Kelsey (Thomas) Drye, Alexis (Jacob) Bradley, sisters in law, Marihelen Walker, Sue Purvis and Vi Logan. Eight great grandchildren and dear family friend Dennis MacLannan.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Gayle was known for loving her Lord and Saviour. She is a lifelong member of Covenant Presbyterian Church having attended for over forty years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, working crossword puzzles, and watching Downton Abby. She had a willingness to help others and had an unwavering devotion to her family. She had a love of music of which she was able to not only read music but play by ear. She taught music for twelve years.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, June 8 at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Hendersonville on Kanuga Road at 11:00am with the Reverend Steve Mirich officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00-10:45am. A graveside service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park will be held following the service.
