Elizabeth DeForest Smith of Asheville, NC, age 84, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2024. Born on October 14, 1939 in Boston, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late John Willard and Ina (Allan) Smith. She was the beloved youngest sister of the late Kathleen “Kaye” (Smith) Duggan, Allene (Smith) Corcoran and Williard “Joe” Smith.
Elizabeth was a life-long resident of Arlington, Massachusetts and graduated from Arlington High School in 1956. She went on to the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and began her career at Arthur D Little, Cambridge. She had an industrious career in the art and design field, and retired from Mitre Corp, Burlington in 2003. Elizabeth was also a long-time member of Grace Chapel, Lexington. In her free time, she enjoyed skiing, tennis and golf. Her greatest passion was gardening, and her homes on Hillside Avenue and Bunker Court were always the most beautiful yards in the neighborhood. Elizabeth enjoyed traveling, and annual summer vacations at Cape Cod with her family.
Elizabeth retired to North Carolina in 2004 where she fully enjoyed her passions of gardening and painting. She also loved volunteering at the North Carolina Arboretum and the Biltmore Estate.
Thank you to the wonderful caregivers and communities of Arbor Terrace and Aston Park Health Center who took great care of Elizabeth.
A private burial will be at Westview Cemetery in Lexington, Massachusetts.
