Born on October 9, 1936 in Hamburg, Germany, Elke Proehl-Buder came to the U.S. in 1954. During her early years while raising a family with Kenneth C. Healy, Elke actively promoted the Foreign Student Exchange Progam, supported a number of school projects and was elected a Board Member of Auburn Hills (MI) School Board. Subsequently, she pursued a career in Personnel and Administration for a German Engineering Company in Crystal Lake, IL, retiring in 2001. Elke was a founding Board Member of the Raue Center for the Arts in Crystal Lake, a position she held with great distinction until moving to her dream retirement spot in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina in 2011.
Elke is survived by husband Herbert J. Buder, son Kenneth C. (Casey) Healy (grand children Leah and Adriane, great grand children Lashay and Audrey). Daughter Heidi Healy-Ward predeceases her, still living are her husband Patrick T. Ward (grand children Shea and Kade).
