William David Hughey, a beloved father, grandfather, husband, brother, uncle and cousin passed away on August 6, 2024.
David was born in June of 1940 in Buncombe County. He attended Brevard High School and was proud to say that he played football for the Brevard Blue Devils. He was the eldest son of the late Listen Hughes Hughey and Gladys Huntsinger Hughey. His departure from this world leaves a void that will be felt by all who have had the privilege of knowing him. David’s greatest joy in life was in his family. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Irene Pierson Hughey. During most of his free time David could be found riding his Harley, trout fishing, spending time with his family, going to the races or perhaps watching a ball game. David loved anything to do with sports.
David is survived by his devoted daughter, Sonya Hughey; his two grandsons, Jonathan Martin (Josie) and Jason Smith; one step-daughter; four great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren and his sister Mary Ann Hughey Demarest.
David was preceded in death by his beloved wife Irene and her two sons; his brother, LH, Richard and Larry, and his sister Patricia Hughey.
A Memorial service will be held Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 1 PM at Cedar Springs Baptist Church 4196 Green River Rd, Zirconia, NC 28790. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 pm Saturday at the church.
