Rita English Humphrey, 75, of Hendersonville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2024, at Elizabeth House in East Flat Rock. She was surrounded by love in her final days.
Born and raised in Long Island, Virgina (near Lynchburg), Rita spent the early part of her career working in the healthcare field before devoting herself to being a full-time homemaker. She was passionate about creating a loving home and took great pride in tending to her yard, which was always immaculate and filled with beauty. Rita also had a love for golf, a sport she enjoyed for many years with friends, family, and her ‘league ladies’. She had room in her heart for several Pekingese dogs over the years.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 40 years, John Humphrey, of Hendersonville; her daughter, Katrina Baker (Shane), of Odessa, Texas; and her grandson, Linkoln Wilson, of Maryville, Tennessee. She also leaves behind her sister, Linda Moore (Cleave), of Tuxedo, North Carolina, and her brother, David English (Tonya), of East Flat Rock, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins who will fondly remember her.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin O. and Margie A. English, and her brother, Marvin E. (Ed) English.
Her legacy is one of warmth, dedication, and quiet strength, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Sunday October 13, 2024 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Elizabeth House in her memory.
