Charlie Blayne Turner, 93, of Hendersonville, North Carolina went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 18, 2024.
He was born in Sandy Springs, North Carolina on August 10, 1931. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Parker Turner, his parents, Charlie B. Turner and Lola Arzie Strickland Turner, four sisters, Mary Donnahoo, Ruth Smith, Luveniar Blackwell and Annette Holmes and a brother, Malcolm Turner.
He served four years in the U.S. Air Force in the Korean War.
He graduated from UNC Asheville with an Engineering Certification. He retired from General Electric after 42 years of service where he was instrumental in the development of several lighting patents.
He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Hendersonville since 1956 where he was a department head and a Sunday School Teacher.
Blayne was a member of the Hendersonville Elks Lodge #1616 where he served as Lodge Secretary for 41 years, was past grand exalted ruler, State Secretary for 17 years and the North Carolina State President for one year.
He enjoyed attending local concerts, symphonies and Ballroom Dancing.
He is survived by a daughter, Dena Cosgrove of Laurel Park; a son, Gary Turner and his wife Pat of Landrum, South Carolina; a brother, Leslie Turner of Spartanburg, South Carolina; three step-children, Cheryl Stahl of Hendersonville, North Carolina, Crystal Phillips of Mills River, North Carolina and Cathy Lucero of Simpsonville, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Cassie Cosgrove of Brooklyn, New York, Kara Cosgrove of Hendersonville, Jake Cosgrove and his wife Courtney of Charlotte, North Carolina and Dr. Amy Turner and her husband Charles Thomas of Boston, Massachusetts; three great grandchildren, Cedar and Max Frederiksen and Madeleine Turner Thomas and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, October 27th at Oakdale Cemetery with Rev. Steve Scoggins officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Western North Carolina Helene Disaster Relief through the First Baptist Church of Hendersonville.
