Robert Spencer Lawter,78, lifelong resident of Lake Lure, passed away January 6, 2023.
He was born January 23, 1944 to John Wesley and Ada Jackson Lawter. A graduate of R-S Central High School, Class of 1962, and Kings Business College in Charlotte, he spent his entire career with Sears, Roebuck & Company in Asheville, NC. After retirement, he owned and operated Lawter’s Fruit Stand, the family business.
He is survived by a daughter Sara (Cissy) Lawter (Bonnie Gravitte) of Clayton, NC, and a son Robert (Butch) Lawter, Jr. of Clayton, NC, grandchildren Sara Rush (Keegan), Victoria Carter (Ryan), and Andy Lawter, four great grandsons Boston Rush, Jameson Rush, Nolan Carter and Lane Carter, and a sister Emma Jean Robertson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Virgil, Mark and Forrest Lawter.
A graveside service will be held for close family and friends, on Monday, January 09, 2023 at two o’clock in the afternoon at Cooper’s Gap Baptist Cemetery, Sunny View, NC, with the Reverend James Henson officiating. Immediately following the service, refreshments will be served in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Robert’s memory, to Four Season’s Compassion for Life, 581 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
