James Mills “Jimmy” Edney, Sr. died on January 14, 2021 after an extended fight with multiple myeloma. He was born in Hendersonville, NC to Frank and Alice Justice Edney on January 1, 1931.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, his brother Micheal Wilde Edney and two sons, David Franklin Edney and Jimmy Edney, Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Arnetta Capps Edney; children Alice Patterson (Larry), Michael Edney (Lisa), Suzanne Edney, Melissa Bradburn; grandchildren Kim Patterson, Nick Patterson (Retika), Stephanie Cantwell (Robert), David Edney, Chris Edney, Amanda Kelley (Ricky), Melanie  Dalton-Edney, Mitch Edney, Megan Edney, Heather Stepp (Bo), Jessica Schimmel (Konrad); and numerous great-grandchildren.

He graduated from Hendersonville High School in 1949 and went on to attend Duke University. His college was interrupted by his service in the U.S. Army (1953-54).

He returned home to Hendersonville to become one of the most successful and long serving Realtor’s, owning and operating Land of the Sky Realty for over 50 years. He has received numerous awards and accolades over the years. His quiet contributions to this community over the years has helped make Henderson County the special place that it is.

His funeral will be held at Hendersonville First Baptist Church on Sunday, January 17, 2021. The church will open at 1:00 for those who wish to visit prior to the service beginning at 2:00. A graveside service will follow at Shepherds Memorial Park.
