William “Bill” Woodrow Philpot, Jr., 78, of Hendersonville, died Sunday, January 15, 2023 at Universal Health Care. He was born in October 1944, the son of the late William “Woody” Woodrow Philpot, Sr and Wilma Philpot. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Glenn “Benny” Philpot.
William graduated from Ocean High School in 1962. Following his graduation he continued his studies in college with a Master and Bachelor degree in 1975 with a doctorate in medicine. He was a Laboratory Director for 45 years in West Virginia and Pennsylvania, retiring in 1998.
He married Louise Griffin, of Madison County, NC on April 4, 1964. They were married for 58 years. He loved hunting, fishing and watching sports. He was a great husband, brother, father, grandfather, father-in-law and friend. He will be missed.
In addition to his wife, Louise G. Philpot, he is survived by three children, Deborah L. Jones of Mills River, William “Will” W. Philpot III of Cambridge OH. Andrea Lumpkins and her husband, David of Hendersonville; grandchildren, William “Willie” W. Philpot, IV, Christopher T. Jones, Mason Trehern, Ronald “Ronnie” W. Young, III, Donta L. Watson, Kylie D. Philpot, Olivia Todd, Dominique R.A. Lumpkins and Rhianna R. Lumpkins; seven great-grandchildren.
