James Eugene “Jimmy” Stepp, 69, of Hendersonville, NC passed away Sunday, January 21, 2024.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County. He was the son of the late L. C. Stepp and Jessie Jackson Stepp. He was also preceded in death by a son, James Lawrence Stepp and a sister, Diane Burrell.
He attended East Henderson High School, retired from General Electric after over thirty years of service,
He started working for the Henderson County Rescue Squad in 1995, served as Deputy Chief for fifteen years and Chief for two years and continued working until he passed. The Rescue Squad was like his family, they dealt with tragedy but also celebrated together. And even as he died, the members of that family were by his side.
He was a lifelong member of Union Hill Baptist Church and had attended Kings Grove Baptist Church for past few years. He loved the Lord and knew without a doubt that his destiny was in Heaven.
He liked fishing, hunting and enjoying his grandson’s achievements.
Jimmy loved to coach his daughter’s softball games and when his grandsons came along he also enjoyed covering Friday night football games where he got to combine being a part of the Rescue Squad and part of his grandson’s lives.
He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Capell and her husband Phillip of Hendersonville, NC; his grandsons, Cole McMurray of Hendersonville, NC and Will Capell attending App State; his sister, Joyce Penny Stepp of Hendersonville, NC; aunts and uncles, Arthur and Mary Stepp of Polk County, NC and Grover and Maxie Jackson of Mills River, NC and a niece, Tonya and a nephew, Chris.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM Saturday, January 27th at Kings Grove Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow in the church with Rev. Phillip Capell and Rev. Doug Carroll officiating. Burial will follow at Union Hill Baptist Church.
