David Lawrence Jefferson (Dave) of Flat Rock, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2022. He was 78. Dave was born on January 27, 1944 to Robert (Bob) and Anna Mae Jefferson in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. Dave graduate from South Union High School in 1962 and went on to obtain a degree in child psychology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Dave spent his entire career advocating for children and youth as a child psychologist, with his final years serving students in South Carolina.
Dave met Joan Hickson in high school. They had their first date after the first football game of their senior year and thus began their sixty-year love story. Dave and Joan married and went on to have three children, Robert, Pamela, and Meghan.
Dave is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Anna Mae Jefferson and his brother, Thomas Jefferson. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan (nee Hickson) Jefferson, his brother Charles Jefferson, his children, Robert, Pamela, Meghan, his grandchildren, Jason Fouch, Mallorie (nee Fouch) Werner, Hannah Fouch, Sarah Jefferson, Aaron Michael Jefferson, Emma Jefferson, and Mary Elizabeth Keys and great-granddaughter Grey Chan.
Dave was an avid reader as well as a master of the written word. He was known to send a quick note or a greeting card to mark birthdays, accomplishments, milestones and everyday events. A card from Dave often included thoughtful sentiments and quick witted anecdotes.
Dave will be honored and remembered in a celebration of life to be held on January 27, 2023 at First United Methodist Church, 204 6thAvenue, Hendersonville, NC at 11:00 a.m.
