Frederic “Buck” Rogers Dewhurst, 84, went to be with the Lord on February 2nd, 2022 at The Landings @ Mills River. He is survived by his wife, Jenny Creer. He was a resident of Hendersonville for the past 20 years, moving up from Florida. He used to say that he wondered why it took them so long to get up here.
Buck served in the Navy from 1954 to 1974 in various capacities and ended his career as Senior Chief. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor as well as other Naval stations state side. He received an honorable discharge from the Navy and returned to Miami Springs, FL. He and his brother, Jack, took over their family automotive repair business in Hialeah and ran it for 20 years. He led his son’s Boy Scout troop becoming a Cub Master and a trainer for Wood Badge. Before moving to North Carolina, he worked alongside his wife in her business doing title searches. Once they moved to North Carolina, he served at the First Baptist Church of Hendersonville starting the Celebrate Recovery (CR) program in 2012. CR continues to this day. He worked security at the Church for 7 years and was a welcoming presence to every person who came through the doors. His compassion and care for people persisted even after he stepped down from the security and CR positions. He never stopped giving his time and talents to those most in need by serving with the Interfaith Assistance Ministry and the Church. He was also a member of the Hialeah/Miami Springs, FL, and the Hendersonville, NC, Rotary Club Chapters.
Buck loved his nachos and various fast food restaurants (Taco Bell, KFC, etc.). He had a beautiful tenor singing voice and sang at the churches he attended as well as other venues with quartets and the like. Above all, Buck deeply loved God and his family.
