Lloyd O. Coren, Jr., beloved father, loyal husband, and the world’s best poppa, passed away peacefully at home after a prolonged illness.

Always the family man, he is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Cheryl, his daughter, Courtney and Husband, Sean of Cheraw, SC, and his son, Colby of Hendersonville. He is also survived by the light of his life, his granddaughter, Mollie and his three fur babies, Luna, Maddie and S.A.. Lloyd was like a dad and poppa to many, but his chosen son, Chad and his wife, Tara, their boys, Nathaniel, Nicholas, and Jesse and numerous foster children along the way, meant the world to him. Also surviving are his sisters, Wanda Edney and Karen Strickland, brother, David Lyda, multiple inlaws, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Lloyd was preceded in death by; his mother, Lillian Coren, father, Lloyd O. Coren, Sr., and his sisters, Patricia Coren, Brenda Coren Williams, and Marsha Cook, and brothers Rodney Coren and Jeff Lyda.

He was a loving father who attended more swim meets, band concerts, marching band competitions, chorus concerts, and spring musicals than anyone should have to endure. But, he did it because he loved his kids. He was Courtney and Colby’s biggest fan and supporter. He was always there to drag a prop on the field, play in the parent kazoo band, help build a set, or be the timer at a finish line. He was so proud of what they had accomplished and would be sure to tell you about them, even if you didn’t ask.

He and Cheryl had great plans for travel. Thanks to their close friends, Sandra and Larry Morrow, some of those became a reality. Several cruises to islands in the Caribbean and Mexico brought out the silly side of Lloyd. Earning him an honorable mention for the hairy man contest on the ships. Shortly after retirement, Lloyd and Cheryl purchased a new truck and camper to see the world. And see it they did. They put countless miles on the wheels of those vehicles exploring all over the southeast. From the Atlantic shores of Cape Hatteras and Jekyll Island to the blue waters and white sands of Galveston, they loved to see the beautiful country they lived in.

Lloyd was dedicated to everything he did. He was a faithful employee of Michelin Tire Corporation in Spartanburg, SC for over 30 years. Ask any member of his family, the only tires that you are to put on your vehicle are Michelins (or BF Goodrich in a pinch!). He went on numerous mission and disaster relief trips during his lifetime, Kentucky Coal mining, converting an old funeral home into an apartment for battered women, Hurricane Harvey clean up in Texas, and countless local missions projects helping the community he loved. He loved people and wanted to be sure each person had a fair chance in life and would do whatever he could to make a difference.

As he approached his final days, he had begun volunteering and working at Clear Creek Elementary as an afternoon bus rider and member of the Pops on Patrol morning car rider greeters. When the pandemic hit, his job shifted from riding an afternoon route to being a part of the Meals on the Bus delivery team, delivering meals to students across the Clear Creek district. Again, his heart and passion for each person to succeed showed through as he often brought gifts along the trips for students who had impacted him.

The family would like to thank everyone for their love and support through these trying times. They would also like to thank the doctors and nurses of Four Seasons Compassion and Hospice for everything they did for Lloyd in his final days. At this time, a service will not be held due to current COVID guidelines and restrictions. The family will receive friends and family at the home.

A celebration of Lloyd’s life will be at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at The Barn at Tall Oaks 28 Bradley Rd. Hendersonville, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you would help continue Lloyd’s legacy by helping provide meals for students across Henderson County in need. Donations may be made to the Henderson County Education Foundation (hcefnc.org) and designated for MEALS ON THE BUS. Checks and money orders can be mailed to: Henderson County Education Foundation, P.O. Box 1267, Hendersonville, NC  28793 and designated for MEALS ON THE BUS.

The family has entrusted Jackson Funeral Service with the arrangements.
