Harold M. Hodgkins of Hendersonville, NC passed away peacefully on February 10th, 2022 at Pardee Hospital, Hendersonville, NC. He was 94.
Harold Hodgkins was born in Brooklyn, New York and later resided in West Hempstead, NY. He attended high school at Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute. He joined the Navy following graduation as an active-duty Seaman First Class and later as a Fireman First Class on the USS AJAX, USS CHEWAUCAN, and USS PATOKA in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Upon return from the service he attended The Rhode Island School of Design pursuing a career as an industrial designer, marry, move to East Brunswick, NJ, and open his own industrial design firm.
While living in East Brunswick, Mr. Hodgkins attended St. George’s Episcopal Church in Helmetta, NJ. He was actively involved in politics serving as an East Brunswick Township committeeman. He also served as an Exalted Ruler at the East Brunswick Elks Lodge #2370, and was a set designer and actor in the East Brunswick Community Players’ award-winning performing arts theater before retiring to Hendersonville, NC.
Mr. Hodgkins is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Barbara E. Hodgkins, and his children, Laura H. Zullo and her husband Richard Zullo of Belle Mead, NJ; Leslie L. Lombardo and her husband Dr. Michael Lombardo of Grand Haven, MI; and Lisa M. Hale of Rohrersville, MD, and his seven grandchildren; Matthew, Richard, Kaitlyn, Elizabeth, Madeline, Geoffrey, Meredith, and Stephanie, and seven great-grandchildren.
