Genell Yvonne Kilpatrick, 85, of Hendersonville, NC, went home to be with the Lord on February 7, 2026.
Born on August 3, 1940, in Henderson County, she was the beloved daughter of the late Abert and Bessie Mize Justice. Genell attended Flat Rock High School and remained deeply rooted in the community she loved all her life.
Genell will be remembered for her generous heart and unwavering love for her family. Nothing brought her more joy than time spent with those she loved. She enjoyed country music, browsing auctions and yard sales, and cheering on her Atlanta Braves. The beach was her happy place—a place where she felt peace and contentment. Her home was a gathering place, and her door was always open. Everyone who entered was welcomed with warmth, kindness, and a sense of belonging.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Joe Kilpatrick Sr., whom she loved dearly. Genell was a proud and loving mother to Sherry Conley (Bruce), Joe Kilpatrick Jr. (Thia), Bill Kilpatrick (Vicki), and Bobby Kilpatrick.
Known affectionately as “Nana,” she treasured her six grandchildren: Justin Conley (Elena), Colby Kilpatrick (Annie), Kaitlyn Cutshaw (Christian), Chelsey Woodring (Dylan), Auston Kilpatrick, and Kendall Kilpatrick. Her two great-grandsons, Kohlson and Kyson, were the light of her life and brought her immeasurable joy.
Her dear sister, Nadine Brown, is her only living sibling. She was preceded in death by her siblings Sadie Frady, Calvin Justice, and Edward Justice.
Genell’s legacy is one of love, hospitality, and devotion to family. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at The Bridge Church, 580 Upward Road, Flat Rock, NC, on Saturday, February 28, at 2:30 p.m., with Pastor David Lewkowicz and Pastor Roy Waldroup officiating.
