Feb 12, 2026

Robert Lawrence “Bobby” Lewis, 91, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, went to be with the Lord on February 12, 2026.

Born and raised in Tuxedo, North Carolina, near Lake Summit, Bobby developed a lifelong love for baseball at an early age. He attended Flat Rock High School, where he met the love of his life, Myra Jane. Shortly after graduation, the two were married and began building a life together in Flat Rock grounded in faith, hard work, and devotion to family.

In 1957, Bobby was drafted into the United States Army and stationed at Fort Monroe following his training. Jane soon joined him there, securing a position as a Department of the Army civilian, allowing the young couple the rare blessing of working in the same building during his military service.

After completing his service, Bobby and Jane returned to East Flat Rock, North Carolina, where they made their permanent home. Bobby began a distinguished career at General Electric, dedicating more than 35 years of service before retiring in 1995. Together, Bobby and Jane raised two children, a daughter, Melinda, and a son, Steve, instilling in them the same values of integrity, faith, and kindness that defined his life.

A devoted member of East Flat Rock First Baptist Church, Bobby faithfully served as church treasurer, deacon, and a leader of the Royal Ambassadors (RAs), mentoring young men in Christian leadership. His love of athletics continued throughout his life. Though baseball first captured his heart, tennis became his sport of choice, and he excelled—winning multiple local and regional tournaments. He was also an avid gardener who took great joy in sharing his harvests of corn, okra, and tomatoes with family, friends, and coworkers.

In retirement, Bobby and Jane found happiness in serving their church, traveling to visit loved ones, competing in tennis tournaments, working on their home, and, most of all, cherishing time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A man of deep and abiding faith, Bobby exemplified servant leadership. He was a compassionate, Christ-centered role model to his church, his community, and above all, his family. His steady presence, gentle spirit, and unwavering love will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Ruby Lewis; his sisters, Joanne, Shelby Jean, and Patricia; and his beloved wife of 60 years, Myra Jane.

He is survived by his children, Melinda Franklin and her husband Roger, and Steve Lewis and his wife Leyla; his grandchildren, Bill, Jennifer, Jane, and Audrey; and his great-grandchildren, Bella, Harper, and Quinn.

Funeral services will be held at East Flat Rock First Baptist Church on Saturday, February 21, 2026. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 p.m., with the service to follow at 3:00 p.m.

In honoring Bobby’s life, we celebrate a legacy of faith, service, love, and devotion that will continue to inspire generations to come.
