Eugene Charles “Bud” Dalton, 88 of Edneyville, NC passed away Monday February 20, 2023 at Advent Health.
He was born May 27, 1934, to Charlie Fairbanks Dalton and Laura Justice Dalton into a family of five sisters and three brothers. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Inez McChalk, Clara Whitesides, Virginia Huntley, Glenda Nix Hawkins and brothers Dennis Dalton and Clifford Dalton.
He was a true native and lifelong resident of Henderson County. He never knew the meaning of the word “retire” and was a productive apple farmer his entire life. He was Apple Farmer of the Year in Henderson County in 2012 and received the Blue Ridge Apple Growers Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022. He was well known throughout WNC for his talent of water witching. His spare time was spent doing anything on a tractor, rabbit hunting with his beagles, playing horseshoes and tending his many beehives producing some of the prettiest honey in the county.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mae Hoots Dalton, a son Jeff “Cotton” Dalton of Edneyville, two daughters, Sharon Dalton Waldrup of Edneyville and Nancy Medlin (Todd) of Edneyville, two grandchildren, Christopher Waldrup of Salisbury, NC and Katie McCall (Sam) of Edneyville. Additionally he is survived by his sister, Kay Cantrell and brother John Dalton and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held, Wednesday February 22, 2023 at three o’clock in the afternoon at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, with the Reverend Bryan Melton and Reverend Dan Blackwell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. At other times the family will be at the home.
