Barbara Lee Capps Head, 94 of Zirconia, gained her heavenly reward on February 26, 2026. A native to Henderson County, she was born on March 16, 1931, and was the second of ten children to the late Forest and Mae Capps. Barbara was a dedicated member of Cedar Springs Baptist Church and enjoyed fellowship there every time the doors were open. A lover of music, she often searched out songs that spoke to her and worked tirelessly on learning them, taking great joy at being able to sing them for others. Over her lifetime, she made a multitude of friendships and could often be found on the phone with them, reminiscing of days gone by.
Barbara retired from General Electric in 1991. In her retirement; she traveled with friends on several Christian bus tours, visited family across the country, ran Rock Creek Campground (that she founded in the 70’s), volunteered with the Green River Community Association and the Henderson County Genealogical & Historical Society, worked on her constant “to-do” list, baked pound cakes for rainy days, and blessed countless lives.
Always an early riser, when Barbara awoke on Thursday morning, it was in the arms of Jesus. Waiting to greet her was her husband; Clinton Head, two of their children; Alma Staton and Eddie Head, her siblings; Bill Capps, Joan Morgan, Glenda Ray, and Lonnie Capps, as well as many other loved ones. While she celebrates in Glory, she will be deeply missed by her remaining family. She leaves behind three children; Mary Henderson, Nancy Maybin (Terry), and Earl Head (Gwen); Twelve grandchildren: Christopher Henderson, Steven Henderson (Rachel), Kendal Maybin (Melissa), Kelly Mahler (Travis), Andrea Whitmire, Stephanie Alfrey (Jason), Leann Capobianco (Jim), Lindsey Smith (Kyle), Jordan Thomas (Josh), Devon McCraw (Patrick), Jessie Johnson (Austin), and Sydney Capps (Sam). Siblings; Jean Pace, Xander Capps, Norma Emory, Diane Buckner, and Gretka Wallen. 24 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
Barbara wasn’t scared of hard work, she believed in helping her neighbors, she cherished her family and loved sharing her faith with anyone she encountered. She left this world a better place than she found it, fulfilling her desire to leave something worth having for future generations.
