Lawrence Lee Carter, 83, of Hendersonville, passed away Friday March 1, 2024.

My dad was the best example of a loving, hardworking man, providing for his family: wife Nancy, three kids- Toni (Alberto), Rob (Jamie) and Steve. Grandchildren- Teri (Allen), Missy (KC), Tyler (Erin), Robin (Tommy), Jonathan, Brittany (Jared), and Joshua (Emily), and Albert (Natalie). Great grandchildren- Elizabeth, Olivia, Haylen, Natalie, Gabriel, Channing, and Georgie.

He was a Vietnam Veteran, 1963-67. He learned to fly, was trained for multi-engine private passenger planes. He took us on the best airplane rides as kids. He owned his own plane for a while. He loved his cars, baseball- Cleveland Indians, his dogs- too many to name prior to Ally, and his family. He worked so many different trades, doing whatever was necessary to provide for his family.

He moved us from Ohio to Oklahoma to North Carolina, finally settling in the most beautiful place on Earth- the Blue Ridge Mountains of Hendersonville. He worked hard. He was never too proud to do whatever task required to make ends meet for his family. He believed “sparing the rod would absolutely spoil the child,” and we were recipient of many many spankings. He evolved with us through the times and changed his perspective every time. He always and only wanted the very best for each of us, individually. The legacy my dad built is a multi-generational tribe of strong, talented, fiercely independent men, women, and children. We are nurses, law enforcement, HVAC and trade professionals, insurance broker, professional counselor, beauty consultant, architect, artist, and engineer, landscape ecologist, fireman, homemakers and caregivers. We will all continue this life as he lead by example. Loving each other fiercely, advocating for each to be our best authentic selves. He had a personal relationship with each and every member of his family, original and extended. He made sure you knew, you were always welcome to stop by for coffee or a meal, watch a ballgame or “shoot-em up”. It may have taken him an extra minute to recall your name or face, but he always remembered and would not hesitate to tell you how important you were to him. He always asked about your extended family and friends, making sure everyone else was doing well too. He would add you to his prayer list. In my eyes, there was no greater protector, and example of what a great man, husband and father should be. Of course we will miss him, but he truly lives within us always. Thank you for your service Lawrence L. Carter. We will take it from here sir.
