Sharon was a lady who truly embodied the beauty and richness of a life well-lived. She was a 1965 graduate of East Henderson High School. She wore so many hats throughout her life—from her early days working at GE and Shealy Electric to the role she adored as a teacher assistant for Henderson County Public Schools. Her 30-year tenure there was a testament to her love for nurturing the potential in others, especially her students. She spent most of the 30 years working in the same classroom with her “best bud” Carolyn McKay. Her school family was a massive part of her world, just as she was to them.

If there is one thing that ran deep in Sharon, it was her love of faith and community. A devout Christian and proud member of the First Baptist Church of Hendersonville, she found immense joy in leading the church’s decorating committee. There was something magical about how she transformed spaces during Christmas, her favorite time to adorn the sanctuary with twinkling lights and thoughtful touches.

One might be surprised—or maybe not, knowing her love of laughter—that she even graduated from the Barnum and Bailey Clown School. Sharon loved to laugh and lived by humor. She carried that light-hearted spirit through many family gatherings, whether it was a 4th of July cookout or our cherished family Christmas celebrations. She delighted in cooking everyone’s  favorite birthday meal, ensuring these milestones felt as extraordinary as they were meant to be.

Her vibrancy was infectious, whether she was dancing around the house listening to oldies music, tending to her beloved flower gardens or fully relaxed—beachside—on family vacations. Shopping excursions, particularly those involving grandkids and a good yard sale, were her playgrounds.Sharon loved to cook her famous chicken and dumplings, and her famous homemade Christmas goodies always brought a sprinkleof joy to our holiday. But most of all, we will miss the sound of her voice, a blend of wit and wisdom, ever-ready to share a funny story or offer a comforting word. We will miss the encouragement that fortified us and the gentle reminders of Jesus’ love that grounded us all.

Though Alzheimer’s took much away from our family in the end, one thing it could never touch was how much Sharon loved and how deeply she was loved in return. The laughter, warmth, and kindness she imparted continue to fill our hearts and guide us, a testament to her incredible spirit.

Services for Sharon will be held on Sunday March 9th at First Baptist Church, Hendersonville NC with Reverend Steve Scoggins officiating. Visitation will be held at 1pm and the memorial service at 2pm. In lue of flowers, the family ask that you make donations to Hospice of Henderson County 571 S.
