Roger Gregory Higgins Sr., 90, of Hendersonville, NC passed away Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Pardee Hospital.
He was born and raised in Rockford, Illinois, lived many years in Homewood, Illinois and Ramsey, New Jersey before retiring to Hendersonville, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Helen Comp Higgins, his sister, Dorothy Story, his brother, Gene Higgins, his first wife, Carolyn Boren Higgins and a son, Roger Higgins Jr.
He retired from Rudox Engine and Equipment in 2002 after over 20 years of service.
He served in the US Army in the Panama Canal during the Korean Conflict.
Roger graduated from Vanderbilt University where he enjoyed playing baseball. He was an avid reader, a saxophone and clarinet player and enjoyed crossword puzzles.
He taught Bible Study Classes his whole life and was a member of the Etowah United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 1/2 years, Diane Winn Higgins; a son, Rev. Dr. Jim Higgins and his wife Pam of Atlanta, Georgia; two daughters, Maggie Campestre and her husband Nick of River Edge, New Jersey and Jayne Higgins and her partner Kyle of River Edge, New Jersey; seven grandchildren, Bo and Christian Higgins, Carley Berry and her husband Christian; Hannah Johnson and her husband Riley, Allie and Madeline Campestre and Andrew Caughlan. He is also survived by loving sister-in-laws and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Roger’s Life will be held 11:00 AM Friday, March 18th at Etowah United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Buff officiating.
