Donna Smith Huggins, native and resident, of Hendersonville, North Carolina passed away unexpectedly March 29th, 2025.

She was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, John Huggins, her parents Charles and Viola Smith, and her Aunt Eula Mae Lyda.

Donna lived a full and wonderful life, and she often felt that her greatest accomplishment is her daughter Allison. Donna loved her, doted on her, exposed her to many life experiences, and was proud of the mature, successful woman she has become.

Over the years, she reminded Allison to “Be not like dumb, driven cattle! Be a hero in the strife!” (from the poem “A Psalm of Life” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow).

Those who knew Donna, realized she was a very private person. She chose her friends carefully; showing her generosity as she shared
crocheted blankets, books, and carefully chosen gifts for those that were special to her. Donna would give her last dollar to the homeless; saying “what if that person was Allison?”

Her love for animals was displayed by the many dogs and cats she rescued over her lifetime.

She was a strong advocate and fierce fighter in many aspects of her life – specifically women’s rights; always reminding her female friends to be strong and stand up for themselves.

Donna was loved and will be deeply missed by relatives in Hendersonville and the Washington D.C. area, and her friends she so carefully selected.

She was always vocal about the joy that her handsome grandson, Finley, brought her and how pleased she was that he had four legs and the softest fur.

If you would like to contribute in her memory, please donate to Brother Wolf Animal Rescue (bwar.org).
