Patricia Ann (Herring) Funk was a beloved daughter, niece, wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She passed away in her home with her loving family in attendance. She will always be remembered by all who knew her for her quick wit, quick smile and contagious laugh.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 47 years, Carl “Danny” Funk, her parents, Muriel and George, brothers George and Don, sister Marilyn. She is survived by her loving daughter Pam, son-in-law Mike, son Stephen, grandchildren, Liam Fisher (Katie), Sean Fish, Karlee Fish , great granddaughter Addie, brothers Jim (Sybil), Bill, Jack (Joyce), dear cousin and friend, Oleta, several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Pat graduated from Kendall Central School and was a cheerleader in school (despite her father’s concern that her skirt was too short) and a majorette in the school’s marching band. She was reported to be a bit of a cut up and prankster during her high school years and reportedly put soap into the coffee urn in the teacher’s breakroom when she was a senior.
Pat got her first job at the tender age of 17 after sitting in the reception area of Kodak every day until they hired her. She did data entry and was a payroll clerk until she took an early retirement.
Pat met and married her husband while out with friends and they knew they wanted to marry ‘soon’ per their accounts. They built a house only 500 feet from her mother’s house as she didn’t want to be too far away from her mother and her younger siblings.
Pat enjoyed music and reading, Saturday morning coffee with ‘the girls,’ working in the yard and talking to friends and family on the phone. She was always up for an adventure (including motor cycle road trips with her husband, brother in law, Glenn and sister in law Ann. Pat enjoyed visiting new places but was always happy to return home.
Pat advised her family that she couldn’t boil water when she married (she was the dishwasher in her family of 8) but quickly learned to make THE BEST potato, shrimp and tuna salads. These ‘recipes’ were happily shared with her family and many special times were spent in the kitchen with her.
She has passed on to her family the gifts of service to others, love of music in all its genres, love of God, and sense of humor. She enjoyed time with her grandchildren and great granddaughter and was so proud of all of their accomplishments.
Pat will be greatly missed but will live in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. The family wishes to thank Four Season’s Hospice and Palliative Care and H &B Care Services for the wonderful support that enabled the family to keep Pat at home.
