Annette Williams Johnson, passed away peacefully at the Elizabeth House on April 5, 2025 at the age of 89.

Born on May 23, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Rome and Essie Justice Williams. She was a graduate of Edneyville High School and a lifelong resident of Henderson County.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Franklin Johnson, her daughter, Sherry Johnson Freeman, and her granddaughter, Heather Leigh Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Chalmus Williams, Broadus Williams, Burnell Williams, Dorothy Taylor, Helen Merrell, and Lorraine Constant.

She is survived by her children, her son, Jim Johnson and his wife Karen, and her daughter, Tammy Crawford and her husband Anthony. Her grandchildren, who she loved so much, Crystal Slagle and her husband Jeremy, Zachary Freeman and his wife Caitlin (who are expecting their first child – which would be Annette’s first great-grandchild…it’s a girl!), Jami Freeman, Kristina Crawford, and Tyler Crawford. She is also survived by her sister, Marita Case and her husband Jack, and many nieces and nephews.

Her early careers included working at Woolworth’s on Main Street, Chipman LaCrosse, and Berkley Mills, where she made so many lifelong friends along the way. Most of her life she was a homemaker, and was a constant source of comfort and good food, always ready with one of her delicious home cooked meals, and in our early years, for birthdays, we could always count on one of her made-from-scratch birthday cakes with the most delicious homemade chocolate frosting. The grandkids, always bragging about her cooking, would tell us that we just couldn’t make it like Ma-maw made it, even if it was just a store bought box of Macaroni and Cheese. We’re guessing the secret must have been a dash of Ma-maw’s love.

Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of meeting my mom would describe her as sweet, kind, gentle, and loving. Truly one of the sweetest people to walk this Earth. We were truly blessed to have her for a mother, a grandmother, and a friend.

A graveside service will be held, Thursday, April 10, 2025 at two o’clock in the afternoon at Tracy Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Reverend Jerry Mullinax officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship building.

Condolences may be sent to the Johnson family at www.jacksonfuneralservice.com or C/O Jackson Funeral Service 1101 Greenville Highway, Hendersonville, NC 28792. Please include the name of the deceased on the condolence.
