John Lewis Kinney, 86, of E. Flat Rock, passed away on Wednesday, April 8th, 2020 after a brief battle with Cystic Fibrosis.
He moved with his family to Florida at the age of 10. At the age of 20 he worked as a butcher, until he found his true calling of carpentry. He loved carpentry and could swing a hammer like none other. After 25 years he shifted gears and began hanging wallpaper. Another 25 years flew by taking him into his final phase of work as a general handy man. John could build/repair just about anything without guidance. John was truly blessed with a gift. This gift was passed down to all his children through lessons and experiences.
John was a well known and proud Christian man, spreading the gospel to any soul willing to listen. He was very active in his church, Grace Covenant Tabernacle, leading the song and worship services. He enjoyed playing many musical instruments, and singing great gospel songs. There is no doubt that Gods choir gained another beautiful soul to sing praises and worship Him. He did not just talk about his religion, he lived it!
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, of 44 years; one daughter, Amron (Brian) of Texas; four sons, Donavon (Kim) of South Carolina, Loral (Shirley) of South Carolina, Chad (Farrah) of North Carolina and Greg (Lynn) of Illinois; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Special thanks to our dear friend Joyce Neill who was like a sister to john and Carolyn. Joyce gave of herself unselfishly and was a rock in a time of need. We would not have been able to give John the care he needed in is final days without her.
Jackson Funeral Service is honored to assist the John Kinney family with the arrangements.
