Harold “Wayne” Smith, 86, of Hendersonville, NC, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2022, with his loving family by his side. He was born and raised in Gowensville, SC to the late Harold and Myrtle Price Smith.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Terry Turner Smith and his children, Tammy Nix (Brent) of Hendersonville, NC and Scott Smith of Greenville, SC and one granddaughter, Alivia Nix who was the apple of his eye. He is also survived by his 5 brothers & sisters, Shirley Nanney, Audrey Skinner, Charles Smith (Linda), Doug Smith (Carolyn) and Judy Wofford (Ira), along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He also leaves behind two aunts, Alice Turner and Katherine Culbreth.
He was proud to have served his country in the US Air Force for 11 Years. Wayne loved nothing more than being with his family. He spent many years camping with his family and friends in Maggie Valley and was a true ‘outdoorsman’ who took great pride in the beautification of his yard. He enjoyed rabbit hunting and being in the woods with his beagles. The highlight of most of his mornings included eating breakfast at the Mustang Cafe with his friends which he loved dearly. There was never a dull moment and with him, you were always guaranteed to have a good time. He was a dedicated husband, father, brother and friend who will be missed dearly by all.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday April 20, 2022 at Balfour United Methodist Church, 2567 Asheville Hwy Hendersonville, NC, 28791, at 1 o’clock with service to begin at 2 o’clock with Dr. Rev. Neil Hayes and Pastor Phillip Capell officiating. Graveside will follow at Shepherd’s Memorial Park. Memorials can be made to Balfour United Methodist Church.
