
Harry Luther Hoots, Jr., age 80, of Flat Rock, descended into the arms of his Heavenly Father on Monday, April 14th, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
He was born July 28, 1944 in Flat Rock, North Carolina to Harry Luther Hoots, Sr. and Mildred Case Hoots. He attended East Hendersonville High School and was a proud member of the first graduating class in 1961. He attended Blanton’s Business College in Asheville, and then owned the Five Points filling station for a few years. He retired as a Right of Way Supervisor for Duke Power Company where he worked over 30 years. He also retired from the Army National Guard after over 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his dear wife of 53 years, JoAnne Griffin Hoots. In addition to his wife, he was pre-deceased by his parents and his sister, Shirley Hoots.
He is survived by his son, Harry Luther Hoots III, his wife Tracy Birdwhistell of Raleigh, NC, a grandson, Chilton Luther Birdwhistell, of Houston, TX, and granddaughter Zendi Griffin Hoots of Raleigh, NC. and several nieces and nephews.
He was an active member of East Flat Rock First Baptist Church for many years where he was a deacon. He was also an active member of the Greenville Coin Club and the Parker Coin Club. In addition, he was an avid and knowledgeable lifelong collector/trader and enjoyed going to flea markets and attending car shows.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, April 26th at East Flat Rock First Baptist Church with the Reverend Brandon McMinn officiating. Visitation will be held thirty minutes prior to the service in the church, burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Tracy Grove Road, all are welcome. Also, all are invited to gather at Bay Breeze Restaurant after the graveside service to celebrate a beautiful life well-lived.
