Icydor Aldale Mohabier, of the Caribbean, passed away Monday, April 14, 2025.
I.A. Mohabier was the founder of icydorTM and ZIC as well as the primary author of the
TRANSiTiONiNG Series and the empowerment-editor of a series of self-help books.
Icydor was born in Georgetown, Cayman Islands on July 23, 1959 and grew up in a New
York City suburb. In the 80s she dazzled New York with her own fashion line – Lady Ice
Designs, before moving on to be a C-Suite executive assistant at one of America’s largest
private consulting firm. From there, she went back to school to obtain her bachelor’s and
then masters in Gerontology. In 2001, she established a Paralegal practice in Laguna,
California that provided legal administrative services to social justice attorneys. She
ventured into Jamaica for 2 years, Korea for 1 year and China’s mainland for 10 years to
search for new business opportunities. In 2005, she was invited by a retired English
Department Head of an American university to lead a group of novice English teachers
beginning their ESL teaching careers at a newly established private university on China’s
mainland. Icydor spent 7 years at Beijing Normal University’s International Finance College
where she conducted research that enabled her to engineer teaching methods and author
reinforcement products for Chinese college students aspiring to study in British universities.
After concluding this 7-year assignment, Icydor founded the Z.toefl Institute of China (ZIC)
as part of a new private high school. At ZIC she conducted research to engineer TOEFL
preparation literature curricula for Communist-Chinese high school students who desired to
study in American universities. The ZIC Literature Curricula (ZLC) focused on American
social and academic cultures while emphasizing an appreciation for America’s history,
Constitution and Bill of Rights. As part of the long-term goals of the ZLC, Icydor included
Mainland Chinese middle school students in a one-year research project to identify FUN
English Comprehension Activities for Tweens to lay the foundation for their participation in
the ZLC. Icydor’s research in China led to her becoming known as a ‘Social Entrepreneur’
(SE) who generously donated thousands of hours to researching teaching methods as well
as authoring and e-publishing much needed academic material. After concluding her
research in China, Icydor facilitated 6-weeks of Workshops for Self-Improvement [pre-job
training] and Job Retention [post-job training] at Blue Ridge Community College in
Hendersonville, NC.
During her personal time, she enjoyed Spinning®, reading, the theater scene, and
volunteering for theater and community empowerment projects including the Path to
Scholarship Program for mentoring immigrant and migrant teenagers. Her daily yogarobic
practice enabled her to maintain a clear mind and filled her with energy to easily manage
her daily schedule all the way until the end.
She is survived by her beloved and devoted son, Rahiem Strayhorn.
It makes me sad that she’s gone, but I have to remind myself that some people aren’t meant to be
caged on Earth. Their spirits are just too bright. And when they go home, the part of you that
knows how bright they are does rejoice. Still though, the place you live in is that much more drab
and empty now that they’re gone.
I miss my mom
