Louise Corn Ward, a lifelong resident of Henderson County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on April 15, at the age of 92.
Born on May 18, 1931, Louise was deeply rooted in her community. She traced her family’s history back nine generations with roots extending from the mid 1600s in Virginia and leading to the family’s settlement in North Carolina in the mid-1750s.
Louise led a remarkable life as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). A historical researcher, Louise spent decades meticulously documenting and exploring her family heritage. Her commitment to this work was evident in her love for history. In addition, Louise had a successful career at Federal Paper Board from 1974 to 1994. Despite her professional accomplishments, she remained true to her roots, residing in the same home just yards away from where she spent her childhood on Chestnut Gap Road. She taught her family to work hard, persevere, and always keep their word and obligations.
Described by many as one of the most determined, hard-working, forthright, and pleasant individuals, Louise touched the lives of many with her warmth and kindness. She leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories and deep connections with her family and friends.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert Corn and Irene Henderson Corn; her husband, John B. Ward; and two daughters, Betty Jean Ward and Anita Irene Edmond.
She is survived by her son, Alan L. Ward; daughter, Sandra Rena Ward; four grandchildren, Dr. Bryant Alan Ward (Rachel), William Michael Ward, Meredith Ward Longo (Joseph), and Jonathan Bishop Ward. She also leaves behind six great-grandchildren, Jasper Scott Ward, Peter Arly Ward, Laurel Sage Ward, Joseph Ward, Franklin Ward Longo, and Riley Mae Ward.
A special thanks to Beth Ward, who Louise loved like a daughter, for her extra special caregiving over the years.
Louise’s presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will continue to inspire and comfort those who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love and gratitude of all those whose lives she touched.
The family would like to extend their appreciation for the compassionate and high level of care that Dr. Caserio provided for Louise and our family.
A celebration of Louise Corn Ward’s life will be held Wednesday, April 24, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Shepherd Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. In addition, the family will have a drop-in at the Wallace House on Saint Paul Farms from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 21. Memorials can be sent to Mt. Carmel Baptist Church or to a cause of the donor’s choice.
Jackson Funeral Service is honored to serve the Louise Ward family.
