David Robinson was born on June 8, 1943, in Bellefontaine, Ohio, and passed away peacefully in Hendersonville, NC, on May 3, 2026.

Dave attended Bellefontaine High School, where he excelled in football, basketball, baseball, and track. He was recruited by several Division I schools but ultimately chose Ohio University, majoring in Business Administration. He appreciated their commitment to honoring his full-ride scholarship, even if an injury ended his football career. As the first in his family to attend and graduate from college, he remained deeply grateful to Ohio University for the opportunities it provided and his connection to them remained strong throughout his life. He was especially proud that his two younger brothers followed in his footsteps, each earning four-year scholarships.

During his National Guard service, one of Dave’s proudest moments was carrying the American flag in a veterans’ ceremony in Boston. Despite the turbulence of the Vietnam era and the mixed reception some servicemen faced, he bore the flag with dignity and pride.

When Dave met the love of his life and best friend, Pat, their connection was instant. Over the course of 52 amazing years, their bond only grew stronger.

Through life’s joys and challenges, their love remained steadfast—a true testament to their devotion and partnership.

Dave built a career spanning over 35 years with Royal Insurance, holding various lead roles in personnel administration, systems technology and national operations. Stops along this corporate journey took him to NY City (twice), Cleveland, Boston (twice) and Charlotte, NC. As he moved up the corporate ladder, Dave never sought the spotlight but was guided by a strong internal compass and quiet authenticity, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew him.

After they both endured 4-hour daily commutes, they were grateful Dave’s company moved out of New York City to Charlotte, NC in 1986. In 2004 they were ready for a new adventure which led them “home” to the Flat Rock/Hendersonville area of Western NC. They loved taking advantage of the beautiful outdoors and all the area offered.

Together with his wife, Pat, he founded a small photocard business—a labor of love that brought them both great joy. Even as technology moved forward,

Dave remained loyal to the same camera Pat had given him their first Christmas as newlyweds.

Dave was also an avid golfer. He especially enjoyed playing tournaments, making persimmon putters for young golfers and sharing the game and travel with Pat and friends.

Later in life, Dave faced a long and debilitating chronic illness with grace and humor. He often said that Pat was his greatest champion, his most steadfast supporter, and the partner he leaned on throughout their 17-year medical journey.

Daily life was enhanced a hundred-fold by the love he shared over the years with their golden retrievers—Robbie, Bogey, Matty, and Cody—who were not only loyal companions but also a source of comfort during his later years.

Dave’s gentle and caring nature shone through in the way he nurtured and loved those around him, both human and animal.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife, Pat; his sister, Jill, and her husband, Rick; his brothers, Steve and his wife, Kathy, and Scott and his wife, Rita. He also leaves behind nieces Sara, Alisa, and Krista, as well as his nephew Brett, and their respective families.

As per his wishes, services will be private and held at a future time.

In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring his life with a donation to the Ohio University Foundation, David G. Robinson Athletic Scholarship Fund (PO Box 869, Athens Ohio 45701).

Dave will be remembered for his quick wit, generosity, and compassion—a legacy that will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
