Martha Gay “Mimi” Sexton of Henderson County was taken home by her Lord on Sunday, May 4, 2025. She was born October 24, 1937 as one of seven children to Alton and Odell Ashworth of Transylvania County. She was raised in Brevard and enjoyed her time as a high school basketball player. She was married to her loving husband, the late Norman Sexton, for 47 years. Her early working career included time with GE and General Insurance, all while being a homemaker to raise their children, Butch and Cindy. Her later career included becoming the proprietor of Willow Street Grocery, a seller of crafts at outdoor markets, a Guardian ad Litem, and a volunteer at the Anchor Baptist warehouse. Throughout her life she shared the skill of her hands to make and give quilts, blankets, throws, scarfs, hats, and may other items to those she new and loved and to those she found in need. She will be missed but not forgotten by the many lives she touched.
She is survived by Butch and Janice Sexton; granddaughters Jennifer, Amanda, Melanie, and Carolyn; son-in-law Jonathan; great granddaughters, Jackie and Kennedi; great grandsons, Lucas and Liam; brother, Jimmy Ashworth and family of Brevard; brother-in-law, Jim Sexton and family of Mills River; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life at 11:00 on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Anchor Baptist Church in Pisgah Forest, NC. Her family and friends are invited to attend and join her Church family for a meal and time of visitation and fellowship after the service.
Jackson Funeral Service is honored to serve the Sexton family.
