Paul Robert Stepp Sr. , 99, of Lexington, SC and formerly of Hendersonville, NC passed away Friday, May 5, 2023 peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was a native of Henderson County and preceded in death by his parents, Terrell Robert Stepp and May Belle Bishop Stepp, his wife, Kathryn Collins Stepp, two sons, CPL Paul Robert Stepp Jr. and Freddy Wayne Stepp, nine siblings and one grandson, Wayne Stepp.
Paul was a US Army Veteran and had served in WW II in the Eastern-African-Middle Eastern Theater, the Asiatic Pacific Theater and also served in Sicily, Tokyo and Rome.
He was passionate about making airplane models and was a charter member of the Western North Carolina Air Museum.
He was a musician and enjoyed singing and playing the harmonica and guitar. He loved listening to country and gospel music.
He was a member of Kelly Memorial Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Song Leader. He had attended Shepherd Church of the Nazarene in Lexington, SC.
He loved baseball and the Atlanta Braves.
He retired from General Electric after 35 years of service.
He is survived by his son, Richard Alan Stepp and his wife Julie of Lexington, SC; five grandchildren, Kim Dean, Olivia and Chelsea Stepp, Stacey Ponder and Zachary Eadie; eight great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; four siblings, Geraldine Wyatt, Agnes Grasty, and Barbara Redmond all of Hendersonville, NC and David Stepp of Charlotte, NC and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday, May 11th at the Upward Bible Baptist Church (formerly Kelly Memorial Baptist Church) from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A funeral service will follow after the visitation with Rev. Richard Coleman officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be at Shepherd Memorial Park.
