Theresa Joyce “Joy” Thompson, 65, of Hendersonville, NC passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at her home. She was born November 24, 1958 to George “Bruce” Layne and Dorothy “Dot” Burns Layne.
After graduating from East Henderson High School in 1977, Joy worked for Mother Earth News magazine for nearly 20 years. She went on to work for Professional Vision Center in Hendersonville for 17 years. Joy also served the community during elections, working part-time with the Henderson County Board of Elections.
She loved the beach, fishing at the lake, camping, cooking, and entertaining friends and family. An avid animal lover, Joy was passionate about animal protection services and embraced a number of rescues through the years. She was deeply loved by her faithful dog, Lucas, and her late canine companions, Snowball, Freckles and Rufus.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bruce and Dot Layne; her father-in-law, Gerry Thompson; and her sister-in-law, Laurie Layne. Joy is survived by her husband of 25 years, Jerry Thompson; her brother, Terry Layne; her sister, Janet McGuinn and her husband, Mike; her mother-in-law, Wilma Thompson; her sister-in-law, Carla Thompson and her wife, Kim; her sister-in-law, Kathi McCarroll and her husband, Mike; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Her infectious laugh and bright smile will be missed by all who knew her.
A service will be held on Thursday, May 30 at 3 p.m. at Biltmore Church- Hendersonville Campus, located at 103 Education Drive, Flat Rock, NC.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Blue Ridge Humane Society or Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue.
