Blake Robert Montgomery was born September 20, 1952 in Midland, Michigan.
Graduated Niskayuna High School in 1971 and volunteered for the Marine Corps shortly thereafter, serving 6 years, earning numerous decorations and awards before being honorably discharged in 1978.
After leaving the military, Blake pursued a degree in geography from the State University of New York in Albany, getting his BS in 1981. He was employed by US Defense Mapping, working in San Antonio, Texas and Reston, Virginia.
He moved to Hendersonville in the 1990s. A life-long learner, Blake earned a machining degree from Blue Ridge Community College.
Blake was a 30+ year member of the Sports Car Club of America and travelled to events across south and central United States to volunteer as a flagger at track & hill climbing events, as well as motorcycle races. He was a skilled auto mechanic and often elbows-deep in automotive projects. Blake was a proud 30 gallon blood donor for the Red Cross.
He was a devoted caretaker of his parents in their declining years and nursed his brother Gregg through Gregg’s terminal illness. Blake enjoyed helping many of his neighbors with their garden chores and he maintained his own lovely woodland garden. He found a wonderful community in Country Club Estates – neighbors that embraced him and became his Hendersonville family. He was a daily fixture at Planet Fitness, though not always happy with their choice of television network.
Blake is predeceased by his parents, Robert S. and Elaine Z. Montgomery and his brother Gregg S. Montgomery. He is survived by his sisters Sherry Montgomery Larson (+ Erick), Allison Montgomery Welty (+ Richard), two brothers Dr. Jonathan S. Montgomery and Douglas H. Montgomery plus his nieces Julia Larson Kelly (+ Andrew) & Madeleine Welty, and his adoring cat, Miso
