Reverend Donald L. Chapman, 94, of Hendersonville, NC passed away peacefully on Good Friday, April 3, 2026 at 10:45 p.m. surrounded by his children.

Reverend Chapman was born on October 9, 1931 in Akron, OH, to Reverend and Mrs. Lawrence R. Chapman.

During the Korean War, Don was stationed at Hunter Air Force Base in Savannah, GA where he met Angela Taylor. Soon after, they began dating and were married on August 1, 1953 at the First Alliance Church. It was there that Don and Angela were heavily involved in the music ministry and in teaching.  This laid the groundwork for his later call into full time ministry.

In his early years Don was a trust officer at the Citizens and Southern Bank where he was highly respected for his conscientiousness and trustworthiness. He maintained a strong Christian testimony.

In his late 30s Don began to feel a call from God to full time ministry and after much prayer and preparation, the Chapmans moved from Savannah to Toccoa, GA where he studied and graduated from Toccoa Falls College with honors. Wasting no time Don was called to pastor a new Alliance Church in Hendersonville following graduation, where he served out his entire ministry.

Even after retiring he remained a faithful and deeply loved member of the church. Don never lost his love for learning and studying the Word of God. Even when his eyesight began to fade he listened to the Bible and sermons on audio. He engaged with people and was highly respected by his congregation and fellow pastors.

He will be remembered for his kindness, his passion for his Savior and his fierce love for his family.

In recent months he talked so much about how he longed for Heaven and the thought that he is there and heard those beautiful words “well done, good and faithful servant” is such a comfort.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Angela, his second wife Jeanine, and his brother Earl Chapman.  He is survived by his children Susan Hettinger (Dan), Dawn Warren (Joseph), Lawrence Chapman (Toni) and grandchildren Danny Hettinger (Kelly), Andrew Hettinger (Brittany), Angie Grunder (Matt), Andrea Childs (David), Eric Warren (Sally), and Taylor Chapman (Lia) plus many beloved great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother Ted Chapman and his wife Patty.

Friends and family are invited to attend his Memorial Service on June 6th at 2:00 PM at Living Hope Community Church in Hendersonville, 1821 Windsor Drive. There will be a time of visitation and refreshment following the service in the Fellowship Hall.

“Being confident of this that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”  Phil. 1:6.

Jackson Funeral Service is honored to assist the Chapman family.
