Fred Lohren Edney, 95, of Adel, GA, died Saturday, May 29, 2021.

Fred was the son of the late Fred Edney and the late Jetta Drake Edney. He was born October 25, 1925 in Hendersonville, NC. He was in the Pacific in the Navy during WWII for twenty-seven months on LST 573.

He is survived by a son, Lewis Peace Edney, of Tifton, GA, and a daughter, L. Diane Cope of Hendersonville, NC and the late Lohren L. Edney of Fort Lauderdale, FL. He is the brother of the late VJ Edney of Layfette, LA, Curtis Edney of Clanton, AL, Lewis Edney of Birmingham, AL, Ruth Welsh of Dallas, TX and Belle Rigsby of Birmingham, AL.

Fred was a grandfather to Tara and Josh Edney, Christopher Cope, Kelly Stephens, Kimberly Powell, the late Cameron Cope, and the late Amber Fawn Edney.

He was a great-grandfather to Alana, Cole, Eva, and Layla Edney and to Henry, Grace, Coral and Cameron Cope and to Amber and Chloe Tam, and to Michael Ray, Dustin, Trent and the late Katie Stephens, and Brianna, Jackson, Payton and Madison Powell.

He was great-great-grandfather to Skyler Stephens. Fred had and loved dozens of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Fred always took his children to church. He was a deacon at Mud Creek Baptist Church.

As Fred’s children grew up, he loved all their friends, especially Lewis’ football teammates.  When he got “instant grandchildren”, Fred was thrilled to take them fishing and tell stories to his captive audience, whether or not they caught any fish.

He was blessed to retire and have several farms where he practiced intensive grazing and terraced farming. At 80, he took a class at UF on artificial insemination and got the bull of his dreams. He cared for 16 horses. He named the last farm, “Air Castle Farms” to prove that dreams are more than air castles and pipe dreams. They can become a reality.

Fred was cared for the last two years of his life by his grandson, Josh Edney, who loved him greatly and will miss him so much.

Fred loved all his family and extended family so much. He loved to fish, farm, raise horses, cows and eventually sit on his porch and rock.

A funeral service will be at 3:00 PM Friday, June 4, 2021 at Mud Creek Cemetery. Pastor Craig Halford will officiate and niece, Paula Edney will also speak at graveside.

The obituary was written by his loving daughter, L. Diane Cope.
