Paula Wright Summey, 75, of Hendersonville, North Carolina went to her Heavenly Home on Monday, June 2, 2025 at her home with her loving husband Sam and older sister Kathy by her side after a long battle with cancer.
She was born in Asheville but moved to Henderson County in 1957.
She was preceded in death by parents, James Paul Wright and Elizabeth Cathey Wright. She was also preceded in death in 2024 by her eldest son, Clifton Thomas Summey.
She graduated from East Henderson High School in 1967, and graduated from Appalachian State University in 1971 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education. She worked at General Electric Lighting Systems in numerous positions for 34 years, retiring in January 2005. Her last position was the Master Scheduler for the factory. After retirement, she volunteered her time with the MANNA Food Distribution Program at 1st Baptist Church East Flat Rock.
Paula was a mother to all of her sons’ friends and once traveled to Raton, NM as a chaperone for Flat Rock Middle School Hunter Education Team in 1991. Paula most of all liked spending time as a mother and grandmother. She was of the Baptist Faith and an active member of Refuge Baptist Church.
She is survived by her loving husband, Samuel Thomas Summey; her sons, Shaun Keith Summey and his wife Angie of Clayton, North Carolina and Christopher Paul Summey and his wife Aimee of Concord, North Carolina; grandchildren, Vinson, Bella, Olivia and Logan; her sisters, Kathryn Wright, and Beth Parham; brother, James Wright. We would be remiss by not mentioning Paula’s loving daughter-in-law Freda Fisher Summey the wife of the late son Clifton.
A Celebration of Paula’s Life will be at a later date at Refuge Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Neelands officiating.
