Mary Anne Ledbetter Bowen, 86, of Edneyville, died Thursday, June 4, 2020 at The
Laurels of Hendersonville after a period of declining health.
Mary Anne was the daughter of the late Luther and Virginia Ledbetter. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Connard “Charlie” Bowen and brother, Foch
Ledbetter. She was a life long resident of Henderson County and a 1952 graduate of
Edneyville High School. She was a school bus driver for 30+ years for Henderson County Public Schools.

Mary Anne is survived by a brother, Tom (Teresa) Ledbetter of Flat Rock, a sister,
Peggy Laughter of Edneyville, and three children, Alan (Wendi) Bowen, Evelyn (Robbie)
Davis and Duane “Bugs” (Rena) Bowen. She is “Granny” to Brent, Aaron, Cody, and
Erica. She was also known as “Aunt Mary Anne” to many nieces, nephews and
countless others.

Always a giving, caring, and loving woman, Mary Anne will be remembered for her
cakes and homemade bread. She loved to sit and write lengthy letters for family
members all over. The students who rode on her bus she considered “her” kids and did
everything she could to get them home safely. Over the years, she received numerous
safe driving awards. It would be hard to count how many loved ones have a crocheted
or knitted goodie made by Mary Anne. She enjoyed family road trips and the many
adventures that came with them (and there were many.) Always an encouraging
woman, even later in her years when words were not so easy, she would bless those
around her with a “beautiful!” or “love you!” or “yes, yes, yes!”

A graveside service will be held on June 9, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Cemetary.
Dr. Bryan Melton will officiate. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Moriah Baptist Church, P.O. Box
29, Edneyville, NC 28727.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the loving staff at The Laurels for
their compassionate care of Mom.
