Mark Allen Schakel (1950-2026)
It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Mark Schakel, of Hendersonville NC, on June 24, 2026. Mark was born in 1950 in Anderson, IN to Helen and Harold Schakel. He was the oldest of six children.
A 1975 graduate of the University of Kentucky, Mark spent his career in engineering. At home, he was a car enthusiast who loved to tinker with his many projects. Mark also loved spending his summers at the lake and shared this joy with his family. He was a dedicated husband to his wife of nearly 50 years Margaret, a loving father to his daughter Meredith, son Evan and daughter-in-law Felicia, and proud grandfather to two grandsons Landon and Pryor.
Mark’s kindness to others, generosity, and loyalty to his family will be remembered by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
