Eugenia Mae Hill Jackson, age 87, went to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully in her sleep at home on July 9, 2022.  She was born in Henderson County to the late Rev. J. Newil Hill and Eula Mae Lindsey Hill. Fondly known as MawMaw and Aunt Jean, she retired from Henderson County Public Schools as a cafeteria manager serving students at Hillandale and Upward Elementary Schools.  She is best known around the county as an exceptional pianist, playing at Maranatha Baptist Church for 36 years.  She shared her love of gospel music with her family playing and singing with her siblings, children, and grandchildren. Most recently, she was teaching her great-granddaughter, Amelia, to play the piano. In the summer, you could always find MawMaw tending to her vegetable garden.  You could not go to her home without being offered something to eat and a glass of freshly-made sweet tea.  She showed her love for her family and friends through her excellent home cooking; whether homemade biscuits, fried okra, or one of her countless desserts, including our favorites: pound cakes, banana pudding, coconut cream pies, and strawberry shortcake.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Jackson; a daughter, Nancy Elise; her sister Sibyl Staton; her brothers, James Hill, Charles Hill, and Gerald Hill; her brother-in-love, Lewis Staton; two sisters-in-law Mary Jane Hill and Donnie Hill; and a special great-nephew Matthew King.

She is survived by her sons, Billy Jackson (Cindy) and Rev. Michael Jackson; daughter, Gwen Newman (Robert); six grandchildren, Jennifer Rhodes (Jeff), Lindsey Beam (Zeb IV), Courtney Rollins (Dylan), Jason Newman (Mandy), Cody Newman (Fancy), and Jena Newman; 8 great-grandchildren, Kyle Rhodes (Allison), Keaton Rhodes, Annelise Beam (due in August), Amelia Rollins, Reagan Rollins, Jackson Newman, Hunter Newman, and Adalyn Newman; as well as two great-great-grandchildren, Caroline and Charlotte Rhodes.  MawMaw Jackson is also survived by a brother, Frank Hill (Debbie); two sisters, Sharon Amos (Clyde) and Faye King (Ronny); a sister-in-law Martha B. Hill; and numerous nieces and nephews including a very special niece, Kathy King, and an extra special nephew, Darin Hill, both of whom she loved like her own.

Jackson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. MawMaw Jackson will be laid to rest in a graveside service at Forest Lawn Cemetery on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at 11am.  Officiants will be Reverends Tim Clark and Michael Jackson.  The pallbearers will be Jason Newman, Cody Newman, Zeb Beam IV, Dylan Rollins, Kyle Rhodes, and Darin Hill.  Keaton Rhodes, Jackson Newman, and Hunter Newman are honorary pallbearers.  Her obituary was lovingly written by her granddaughter, Lindsey Beam.
