Jul 11, 2025

It is with heavy hearts, but with solace in a life well lived, that we announce the passing of June Marion Hreha, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, stepmother, and friend, who left this world peacefully on July 11, 2025, surrounded by love at the age of 94.

Born on August 27, 1930, in St. Albans, New York, to Carl and Mary Johnson, June lived a life filled with adventure, creativity, and an unwavering devotion to her family and friends. A proud mother of five children, she also embraced her role as a stepmother of three.

June was a woman of many talents and passions. Her childhood love of horseback riding carried into adulthood where she shared her knowledge by teaching Girl Scouts to ride. Her sense of adventure led her to compete in rally car racing.

June’s hands were often busy with painting, sewing, quilting, knitting and many other creative endeavors. She shared much of her handiwork, infused with love, with friends and family over the years, each piece becoming a treasured keepsake. An avid gardener, she enjoyed spending time tending her flowers and enjoying the birdsong.

June was a wonderful cook who enjoyed entertaining, along with her husband, Charlie, in both New York and in Hendersonville where they settled in 1979. Preparing homemade delights and sharing them with friends and family brought her great joy.

An animal lover through and through, June shared her home and heart with a multitude of cats and dogs over the years. Her furry companions were showered with an abundance of love and treats.

To know June was to be welcomed. She never met a stranger, easily making friends wherever she went. She always had time, love, and a story to share. Her absence leaves a profound void in the lives of those who loved her, but her indomitable spirit will live on in each person who was blessed to know her.

June was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Hreha. She is survived by her children, John Catalano, Sr. (Millie), Jeanne Wittner, Lisa Kiss (Stephen), Christa Orr (Perrin), and David Hreha (Hope); her grandchildren, John Catalano, Jr. (Lisa), Jennifer Thomas (Rob), Joel Catalano (Rebecca), Jesse Catalano (Lindsay), Jason Kenney (Adriana), Ally Kiss (Kevin), Michaela Orr, Schuyler Orr, and Griffin Orr. She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren, and two great great-grandchildren, her stepchildren, and their families.

A celebration of June’s life will be held on July 25th at 1:30PM at Grace Lutheran Church (1245 6th Ave West, Hendersonville). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to an animal shelter or rescue.

Condolences may be sent to the Hreha family at www.jacksonfuneralservice.com or C/O Jackson Funeral Service 1101 Greenville Highway, Hendersonville, NC 28792. Please include the name of the deceased on the condolence.
