A look back at the life of Bobbie “Joan” Morgan.

Joan was born the fourth of ten children on April 20, 1935 to Forest and Mae Capps.  Her siblings are Bill Capps (deceased), Barbara Head, Jean Pace, Xander Capps, Norma Emory, Glenda Ray (deceased) Lonnie Capps, (deceased), Diane Buckner and Gretka Wallen. Growing up in Zirconia, NC the importance of being a loving caring servant of family, church and friends was instilled in Joan.

Joan met Roy L. Morgan while singing at church and they were married after a brief courtship on June 29, 1956.  Roy and Joan had four children, but their family routinely extended to their many nieces and nephews.  Caring for those in their lives was truly a passion and family tradition. Her two sons, Tony and Andy Morgan predeceased her.  She is survived by daughters, Myra Cooper (Luther), Angela Morgan and Heidi Morgan.

As named by her first grandchild, Joan most enjoyed being called “Gigi”.  Many more than her grandchildren shared in this reference, the love and care that followed. She has seven grandchildren Krystin Littleton, Melinda McIe, Justin Cooper, Aaron Doane, Grant Doane, Colton Morgan and Shelby Morgan, three great grandchildren Morgan Littleton, Thomas and Leah McIe. To all of these Joan became the ultimate grandmother, care giver and friend.

Her church and faith were also important in her life where Joan was a proud member of First Baptist Church in Saluda, NC.  She loved all the congregation, participating in Sunday School and serving as a greeter. From a young age Joan sang with her family.  This love of music continued throughout her life. Outside of caring for family her favorite pastimes were cooking, canning, gardening and reading.  All were welcomed into her home and well known dinner table.

A celebration of Gigi’s life will be held at First Baptist Church in Saluda, NC on July 14, 2021 at 3pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in her honor to First Baptist Church of Saluda.

Jackson Funeral Service is assisting the family with the arrangements.
