Irene Davis Huntley, 96, of Lake Lure, NC, is now in the arms of her Lord and Savior where her husband was waiting for her. She peacefully passed away on July 21, 2025 where she had made her home with her daughter and son-in-law Trish and Mike, while surrounded by her loving family.
Irene was born March 6, 1929 in Lake Lure, NC. She graduated from Black Mountain High School in 1947. She retired from General Electric in 1989. Irene married David J. (Tom) Huntley in 1948. They were married for 48 years and had 4 wonderful children. She was a devoted member of Bald Mountain Baptist Church.
Irene loved flowers and knew them all by name. There wasn’t anything that she couldn’t grow and make thrive. She was so very gracious, kind, and loved by so many. She fought hard to try to “make it to 100” and loved her family even harder. She spent many hours sharing stories about her life and the lives of her family that she seemed to never forget. She cherished every moment with her children and grandchildren, being excited every single time they walked through the door. She praised the Lord in everything she did and shared that love for the Lord throughout generations.
Remaining to cherish Irene’s memory are children, Jesse Huntley (Peggy), Barbara Huntley, Robert Huntley (Gail), and Trish Steppe (Mike); 8 grandchildren, 18 great – grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Irene in death are her spouse, David J. (Tom) Huntley, her parents, 5 brothers, Clarence (Lee), Bill (Tressie), Reece (Avaline) Floyd, Gene (Katherine), 4 sisters, Annie Mae (John), Martha (Ervin), Helen (Otto), Geneva, and one grandchild, Sherah.
Visitation will be held July 26, 2025 at 1 PM at Bald Mountain Baptist Church, 26 Bald Mountain Road, Black Mountain, NC. Funeral will be held directly after visitation. The family requests that everyone wear purple or red as those were her favorite colors. Memorial donations in Irene’s memory may be directed to Bald Mountain Cemetery Fund (P.O.
