Janis Marie Fagan Dygert, born 13 November 1951, departed this life on the 23rd
of July, 2026 after a long illness.

She rejoins her parents, Marjorie and Franklin
Fagan, as well as her sister, Karen Fagan, who preceded her in death.

The eldest of five children, she was born in Washington, D.C. residing there until
her late teens, when the family returned to Marjorie Fagan’s birth place of
Burnsville, NC.

Open water rescuer, leather worker, chapter manager for Mother Earth News,
textile artist, gardener, and a nurse who retired from the Asheville Veteran’s
Medical Center, Janis pursued all that she did with inexhaustible passion and
joy. She uplifted both family and friends, who now honor and celebrate her life,
lived always in service to others.

She is survived by her husband of over 50 years, Wayne Charles Dygert; her
children, Robin Victoria Dygert and Jonathan Zachary Dygert, her brothers
Gary, Franklin, and Joshua Fagan, and sister Diana Schumacher, as well as
their life partners. She leaves behind several beloved grandchildren, and
cherished nephews.

She was deeply loved, and shall be greatly missed.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at two o’clock in the afternoon at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
